Delivery Man (2014)

What's a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
Go to the cinema of course, today's selection Delivery Man.

This was a surprisingly good film, it is not your usual Vince Vaughn comedy; its not Dodgeball (2004) or Wedding Crashers (2005) At it's heart this is a very sentimental film.

Delivery Man is the story of David Wozniak an incompetent underachiever who finds out that through his many anonymous donations to a fertility clinic 20 years before, he has subsequently fathered 533 children. His problems begin when 142 of them decide to sue the clinic to find out the identity and whereabouts of there birth father.

Yes it sounds incredibly stupid let alone unrealistic but there is just something about this movie that makes it work. Vaughn's character grows as a person throughout the film as he decides to get to know the 142 children after he receives details of their identities. He finally decides to get his life assembled and he does this by showing an act of kindness or touching the lives of the 142, without their knowledge of who he really is. Delivery Man co-stars Chris Pratt excellently cast as the father of four lawyer and best friend of David who advises him against any contact with the children. It also features Cobie Smulders in a rather underdeveloped role as Emma, David's exasperated girlfriend who finds out she is pregnant at the beginning of the film but is unsure whether to let David be a part of the child's life due to his lack of drive, financial troubles and unreliability.

The best parts of this film are those with heart; David going out of his way to reach out in a small way to his many offspring, the connection with his own family and convincing Emma to give him a shot at being a dad. The story arc is realistic as it comes in such unbelievable circumstances. I can guarantee that however ridiculous you think the premise sounds before you go in, when you come out you will accept this as a small but warm movie about family. Can't go wrong with that on a Sunday afternoon, check it out, well worth a watch.
